I WISH YOU COULD SEE YOURSELF THROUGH MY EYES — By Cynthia De Boer

LOOKING INWARD

I wish you could see yourself through my eyes.

You see an imperfect body, which you judge far too harshly.

But a few pounds to many or to few, show me your love and devotion to others.

You see the need for creams and possibly even surgery.

But the lines in your face show me the sorrow and joy you have experienced.

The aches and pains your body tells you about, makes you feel weak.

But your body shows me the hard work it has accomplished.

The depth of your eyes makes you sad, for all the sorrows you‘ve suffered.

But I see the compassion, love and joy you have given.

You dislike the thinning and gray of your hair.

But I see strands worn away with love, and replaced with the gift of silver.

You see yourself as an aging person, not as well as you use to be.

But I see a person that has given their all, everyday.

I wish you could see yourself through my eyes, and stop judging yourself to compete with your past.  The years gone by have filled you with life’s experiences.  You have grown with each passing day, emotionally, mentally, and above all — spiritually.  You are a beautiful being, just as you are.

I wish you could see yourself through my eyes — with love and respect — Just as you should!

Author’s Note:  Seeing ourselves as others see us through loving eyes is beautiful.  Please remember to be kind to yourself, as you would someone you love.  The photos are of my antique hand mirror.  Original Story date: May 2013

Wow! This story is so true we are all so guilty of being judgmental of ourselves and many of us have accomplished so many wonderful things in our lives! When you live a full life you are going to age and show some wear and tear. We do not cut ourselves a break we want to be as pretty and young and fit as we used to look but we know we can’t turn back the clocks so we constantly compare ourselves and make ourselves sad. This story is a perfect example of that. The compassion and understanding that you have always had for everyone young and old only grows even deeper with time! I hope everyone that reads this will love themselves a little bit more every day! Cyndi you are always an inspiration to me and others that is why I love you so much!

You have always been to harsh on yourself. But a very good story. And you are one of the best things that has ever come into my life and you are more than a friend, I don’t even think there is a word that can describe how special it is to have had you in my life all these years so dammit don’t ever forget you “are all that and a bag of chips”. Plus you have a great man by your side that I know will not let you get away with feeling any other way but perfect.
