A Thanksgiving To Remember — By Cynthia De Boer

A Thanksgiving To Remember — By Cynthia De Boer

The way we each spend Thanksgiving varies with every person.  The cooks in the house, view it as days of planning and the hopes of preparing the best meal ever.  Others can’t wait to be served all they can eat, and the food coma that’s sure to follow.  Some spend the long weekend traveling to be with friends and family, while their hosts prepare for their arrival.  For many, it’s all about football.   Still others spend time developing their strategy for the Black Friday sales and the mad rush to December’s festivities.

Sadly, the true purpose of Thanksgiving is often lost in the hustle of the day.  Giving thanks — that’s what makes this day special!

Gratitude for the precious people in our lives, for the fact that the sun is shinning, or that our land is being covered with rain or snow, for our health, for the memories we hold in our hearts, for our dreams for tomorrow, and for the time to acknowledge all that we have.

So enjoy your Thanksgiving the way you like, but remember it only takes a moment to acknowledge your gifts and touch someone’s life with gratitude.  These simple acts will make this a Thanksgiving to remember!

Author’s Note:  I feel it is important to recognize all our blessings.  May you all have a Happy Thanksgiving.  This story was previously published in November’s issue of the “Boulder City Magazine”  The photograph was taken by Dann De Boer in November, 2012.  What a beautiful tree all decked out in fall colors.  We discovered it in the Moab area.
